چکیده
For finitely generated module M over a local ring R, the conventional notions of complete intersection dimension CI-dimRM and CohenMacaulay dimension CM-dimRM do not extend to cover the case of infinitely generated modules. In this paper we introduce similar invariants for not necessarily finitely generated modules, (namely, complete intersection flat and Cohen-Macaulay flat dimensions) which for finitely generated modules, coincide with the corresponding classical ones.

The key to membrane theory is to enlarge the diffeomorphism group until 4D gravity becomes almost topological. Just one ghost survives and its central charges can cancel against matter. A simple bosonic membrane emerges, but its flat D = 28 target space is unstable. Adding supersym-metry ought to give calculable (2,2) membranes in 12 target dimensions, but (2,1) membranes won't work.

We introduce the class of projective reflection groups which includes all complex reflection groups. We show that several aspects involving the combinatorics and the representation theory of all non exceptional irreducible complex reflection groups find a natural description in this wider setting.

We show that for every generic smooth projective hypersurface X ⊂ P, n > 2, there exists a proper algebraic subvariety Y $ X such that every nonconstant entire holomorphic curve f : C → X has image f(C) which lies in Y , provided degX > n n+5 . Table of contents

We extend a mod 2 relation between the Kauffman and Homfly polynomials, first observed by Rudolph in 1987, to the general Kauffman and Homfly satellite invariants.

Given a set C of binary n-tuples and c ∈ C, how many bits of c suffice to distinguish it from the other elements in C ? We shed new light on this old combinatorial problem and improve on previously known bounds.
